FAQ: FAQ

Why did you choose the Great Pyrenees?

When our family moved out of the city we knew we wanted a large, guardian breed who was good with small children. Since we have 4 young children we wanted a dog that would watch over them but was not aggressive. We love the watchful nature of the breed along with their love of being outdoors. Our dog lives in the house and backyard and has done a great job keeping aerial and ground predators away from our chickens, goats and sheep who she shares a fence line with.

What makes Blackmore Farms a good place to get a Great Pyrenees puppy?

When you buy a puppy from Blackmore Farms you are not only getting a great addition to your family and farm but also a source of advice and help with the raising and training of your new family member. I have been raising and training dogs since I was 9 years old. I got my first dog at 9 years old (a husky with an independent and stubborn temperament) and then began raising service dogs from 2006-2019. I am excited to help people raise their Great Pyrenees to be exceptional additions to the family or homestead!

How are puppies raised at Blackmore Farm?

Our mama dog is health tested by our local veterinarian to assure she is healthy to carry puppies as well as PENNHIP evaluated to assure that she has exceptional hips to give her puppies the best chance for a long and healthy life. The puppies are born inside with our family so they can be properly monitored during their first weeks of life. Once they are older we move them outside to our garage so they can get early exposure to various farm animals to set them up for success later in life. We deworm our puppies at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks and give them their first round of puppy vaccinations to assure optimal health when your puppy goes home. Each puppy is also seen by our local veterinarian prior to going to their forever home. Due to the Great Pyrenees wandering nature we also microchip them. We love each and every puppy and cannot wait to help each family pick the puppy that best fits their family and lifestyle.
